Sinus Lifting

Sinus Lifting
Sinus lifting; Sinus elevation is the process of lifting. The air spaces in the skull, which have functions such as reducing the weight of our head and producing sounds properly, are called sinuses. Some of the sinuses are located in areas adjacent to our teeth. Generally, when the teeth in the rear area of the upper jaw (maxilla) are lost and the necessary prostheses are not replaced in time, the distance between the sinus wall and the highest point of the jaw bone becomes shorter and there is not enough bone to place implants in this area. The process of surgically elevating the sinus floor in order to increase the decreasing amount of bone is called sinus lifting.

There are two types of sinus lifting methods: closed and open sinus lifting:
Open sinus lifting technique: It is the technique preferred in cases where the bone height is 3-4 mm and below and aims to form more bone.
Closed. sinus lifting technique: It is a technique that is applied in cases where there is a bone height of 5 mm or more and also allows the placement of the implant.
In cases where there is sufficient bone volume, the implant can be applied in the same session.
  • How is the Sinus Lift Procedure Done?
Sinus lifting operation; It is a surgical intervention usually performed with local anesthesia or sedation (according to the patient's preference). The sinus area is removed at the desired level and A small window that opens inside the mouth is made accessible via . After the desired increase in the sinus membrane covering the inside of the sinus is achieved, bone powder and grafting are applied to the resulting gap and the area is closed with stitches. Sinus grafting is used to apply implant treatment to toothless areas as a result of filling the sagging sinus cavities. Thanks to this process, sufficient volume is provided for the length and width of the implant, which must be fully embedded in the bone.
  • What Should Be Considered After the Sinus Lifting Procedure?
Since the sinus lifting procedure is a very delicate and more complicated treatment than implant surgery, patients should be extra careful after this operation. In order to protect the wound area, it is important to eat with the other side for 24 hours. Nothing should be eaten or drunk for two hours after the procedure. No pressure should be applied while cleaning the nose and the mouth should be kept open while sneezing. It is recommended not to smoke for at least 10 days, to avoid sneezing and coughing and to never cover the mouth during this time. Spitting should not be done for 24 hours. This function will create negative pressure and cause bleeding.
