Tooth Extraction and Things to Do After Tooth Extraction

Teeth are extracted for various reasons, but mostly at the insistence of the patient. Tooth extraction is the last thing to consider in today's dentistry; But there is a tendency among people to have it removed even if there is even the slightest pain. It is believed that teeth with abscesses, large decays, or teeth that cause severe pain should be extracted immediately. It is very difficult to convince the patient that his teeth can be saved by root canal treatment or filling. Sometimes, as a result of the insistence of an unconvinced patient, a tooth that may remain in the mouth for years may be extracted. Deciding on tooth extraction is very difficult for a real physician. We do not recommend that you surrender your teeth easily. Even if you end up having to have it removed, there are some points you should pay attention to.

After the extraction, firmly bite the cotton or gauze pad placed on the extraction site by the physician for 20-25 minutes. This tampon stops bleeding in the extraction space and ensures the formation of a blood clot, which will ensure a healthy healing. If you change the tampon frequently, you will prevent clots from forming. The clot will close the extraction space like a natural buffer and make the necessary preparations for the space to be filled with bone structure in the future. If the clot is prevented from forming or if the clot is broken by not paying attention to the necessary points, wound healing is impaired and a painful process begins.

If there is pain after the extraction, you should take a painkiller other than aspirin. Aspirin, due to its blood thinning properties, can initiate bleeding and prevent clotting. As the numbness begins to wear off, there may be severe pain. In this case, painkillers should be taken immediately. There may be pain in the injection sites used for anesthesia in the days following the extraction. These pains usually pass within two days.

Slight bleeding in the form of leakage is normal for up to 24 hours after the extraction. Don't panic. If there is heavy bleeding after the extraction, bite a clean, sterile cotton pad for half an hour. If the bleeding does not stop and continues with the same intensity, consult your physician. If you cannot reach the doctor, try to control the bleeding by biting the tampon for a longer time. Do not cause the extraction site to bleed more by changing the tampon frequently and rinsing your mouth. If, despite all this, you cannot stop the bleeding, which is very intense bleeding we are talking about, and the bleeding in the form of leakage is stopped with a tampon, buy a transamine capsule or ampoule from a pharmacy. Absorb some powder or the liquid in the ampoule into the tampon, place it on the extraction site and bite firmly. This recommendation is valid if the doctor cannot be reached and the bleeding is very intense. Under normal circumstances, try to reach your doctor and act according to his recommendations.

4. Do not smoke or drink alcohol for 24 hours after the shooting. These prevent the clot from breaking or forming in a healthy way. If you cannot stand smoking, you should take a breath or two in a position where you bite your teeth, without making deep inhalations or sucking movements, and smoke enough to suppress your desire. Do not consume very hot or cold foods. Because this may cause the clot to break away and bleeding to start again. Warm and soft things should be eaten and drunk after the shooting. 5. If the shooting took place under difficult conditions and for a long time, that is, if it was a complicated shooting, as we call it, it would be beneficial to apply cold externally every 5-10 minutes every hour for 8 hours. This way you can control swelling and bruising. 6. Sometimes the root may break during extraction. In this case, the physician decides whether to leave the root or remove it according to the length of the root, the location of extraction and some conditions. In this case, patients should leave the decision to the physician. It may be necessary to leave the root after the necessary treatment and remove it after 2-3 months, or under some conditions, it may be necessary to leave the root there completely. If you act with the logic of removing the root no matter what and force the doctor to remove the roots at the expense of beating you, you may encounter more dangerous consequences. If you have trusted a doctor, let your doctor make the decisions in case of complications.

7. Do not touch the extraction site with your tongue or any other tool after the extraction, and do not disrupt wound healing. Since the tooth is inside the bone, patients try to remove and detect the bone that appears after extraction, mistaking it for a root. If there is a root left, your doctor will warn you anyway. To be sure, see your tooth after extraction; But please do not take this germ ball and bring it to your home. Even though patients see unbroken roots, they try to explore the bone with their tongue at home, mistaking it for a root, and thus impairing wound healing. Be more conscious about this issue.

8. It is normal for pain to occur on the day of the shooting and to have mild pain that can be relieved with painkillers on the days following the shooting, depending on the situation of the shooting; However, the severe pain that begins in the days following the extraction, keeps you up at night, does not go away despite painkillers, and occurs as if a tooth was not extracted, tells us that the wound site is infected, the clot has broken off, etc. It tells that there is an abnormal event at the shooting location. In this case, a doctor should be consulted and the necessary dressing and treatment should be provided. You will immediately feel relief when your doctor makes the necessary dressing for your mouth and gives you antibiotics, painkillers and the mouthwash necessary for oral hygiene. The pain may not stop immediately; but it gets lighter. If the doctor just prescribes medication and sends you away, it may take 2-3 days for your pain to subside. You can put gentle pressure on the doctor for dressing. Sometimes no dressing is needed; However, when you look at your tooth with a mirror, you can see the inflammatory fluid and pus and if you feel this large gap with your tongue, a dressing is required and this will relieve you greatly. Sometimes, it can be relieved with a 5-minute dressing and thus you can avoid spending 2-3 days in pain. If you have severe pain after the extraction, consult your physician; ?In this case, could my pain be relieved more quickly if a dressing was applied? You know the condition of my mouth better, but I am very uncomfortable. You can warn him without offending him by saying sentences like: If dressing is necessary he will do it.
